速度標語 Tempo Marks

メトロノームという言葉はよく耳にしますね。一定の速さで弾けるように練習をする時もよく使うと思います。
M.M. ( エムエム ) Mälzel’s Metronome 、メルツェルのメトロノームという意味です。曲の速度の単位を表します。
楽譜での表記は M.M.♩=120 ( M.M.) がよく省略表示されます。
BPM (ビーピーエム ) Beats Per Minuteの略、１分間の拍の数で演奏の速度を示す単位。
120 BPM＝M.M. 120
メトロノームはオランダのヴィンケルによって作られましたが、メルツェルが改良し実用的に使えるようになったのは
1816年でした。翌年にベートーヴェンが楽譜にM.M.を用いてました。

We often hear the word “metronome,” and we often use it when practicing to play at the same speed. M.M. ( M.M.) Mälzel’s Metronome, which means “Merzel’s metronome. It represents the unit of speed of a piece of music.
M.M. ♩=120 ( M.M.) is often abbreviated in music notation.
BPM is an abbreviation for Beats Per Minute, a unit that indicates the speed of a performance in beats per minute.
120 BPM = M.M. 120
The metronome was created by Winkel in Holland, but it was not until 1816
that Merzel improved it and made it practically usable.
The following year, Beethoven used M.M. in his scores.

発売当時は手巻き式のメトロノームでしたが現在は電池式、アプリ、腕時計のように身につけて、
速さを振動で感じる物もあります。作曲家や演奏者によって、それそれの解釈が違いますので
メトロノーム記号はおおよその目安になります。

When it was first released, metronomes were hand-wound, but now there are electric metronomes, apps,
and some that are worn on the wrist like a watch and vibrate to indicate the speed of music.
Since different composers and performers interpret metronomes differently, the metronome symbols
can be used as a rough guide.
